Yacht Charter from Fethiye & Gocek

If you are looking for a charter yacht in Turkey to enjoy a relaxing sailing holiday then look no further than the Gulf of Fethiye. Start your charter from Fethiye or Gocek, both easily reached from Dalaman airport, to have access to this tranquil sailing area with its calm winds, protected anchorages and short passages between islands and bays. Fethiye is a friendly harbour town with waterfront boulevard and pedestrianised town centre lined with tavernas and shops selling everything from carpets to spices. Göcek is a yachting centre but has lost none of its authentic Turkish charm.

To charter a yacht in Turkey is to appreciate the slower pace of life still lived by many in this part of the world and allows you to combine stunning anchorages, natural springs and mud baths with visits to ancient tombs and Lycian ruins. Names such as Four Fathom Bay, Ruin Bay, Wall Bay and Tomb Bay might sound like those found in a bestselling novel but in actual fact these names hint to the area's centuries old history which remains evident today.

The Gulf of Fethiye is a yachtsman’s paradise with so many sheltered anchorages, coves and islands with crystal clear water, ideal for swimming and snorkelling and perhaps even catching a sight of turtles and dolphins! During your yacht charter in Turkey most evenings will be spent in a protected anchorage with just one or two restaurants ashore, giving you the chance to sample the delicious cuisine and warm hospitality of the locals before settling down to a peaceful night on anchor.

A bareboat sailing holiday in Turkey is great choice for those who already have a sailing license and are looking to plan their own itinerary to best suit their crew. For a sociable holiday with the assistance of a professional lead crew with fantastic knowledge of the local area, why not have a look at the Fethiye Flotilla. For a memorable holiday for a large group, perhaps a traditional gulet in Turkey could be the ideal option. These iconic boats can take up to 20 guests and provide a professional crew and meals onboard.

Useful Information

The best months for a yacht charter in Turkey are May to October which provide ideal sailing conditions. To avoid the crowds book your sailing holiday in Turkey from April to June, although even July and August aren't too busy.

Peak Season

Turkey sees a longer sailing season than other Mediterranean sailing destinations and whilst the summer months are popular months to visit Turkey, September and October are peak season in this area. Summer temperatures in Turkey average between 26 - 30ºC.

Shoulder Season

April and May are quieter months to sail in Turkey but are still generally warm and sunny and may well be a good option for you if you are looking for a tranquil sailing experience.

Sea Temperatures

From May to Novemeber the waters remain above 20ºC, peaking at 26ºC for the main summer months. Turkey is the perfect destination for watersports, snorkeling, and scuba diving.

Wind

The average wind speed is 10 - 20 KN from the NW which makes for relaxed sailing conditions with the winds picking up slightly in the afternoon. Making this a family friendly sailing experience.

Turkey is a fantastic destination for sailing, with a myriad of bays, historic sites and steady winds.

Göcek

A bustling, authentic Turkish port with picturesque islands and coves. Perfect for those looking for calmer sailing conditions.

Fethiye

A popular sailing destination with lots of sheltered anchorages, coves and islands to explore. The ideal location for swimming and snorkeling and perhaps even catching a sight of turtles and dolphins!

Marmaris

The perfect mix of city nightlife, quiet anchorages and historic sites make Marmaris the perfect destination for a yacht charter. At the end of October Marmaris hosts its International Race Week regatta.

Bodrum

Bodrum is a well-rounded sailing destination, from incredible historical sites like the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (one of the seven wonders of the ancient world) and Bodrum castle to stunning sunsets and secluded beaches.

The crystal clear water, sheltered anchorages, peaceful coves and beautiful islands of the Gulf of Fethiye makes this a sailor’s paradise. Weather conditions are very favourable for a relaxed sailing holiday. Afternoon breezes from the west average Force 2-4 during the Summer. Temperatures are warmer than Greece with summer temperatures reaching 29-33°C. The sailing season runs from early May to late October.

The cost of your yacht charter depends on several factors:

Boat Type

The type and size of the yacht you book will dictate the price. A 1 week bareboat charter in Turkey on a 2 - 3 cabin monohull starts at around £900 in low season whereas a 1 week charter on a luxury catamaran with a skipper in high season could be upwards of £10,000. These are the two extremes of the scale for a 1 week yacht charter in Turkey and we offer plenty of choices in between.

Charter duration

1 week is a popular choice amongst our sailors and makes the perfect getaway, however, a longer charter will give you more time to explore even more of the Turkish coastline and islands. We have a range of 1 and 2 week flotillas as well as custom bareboat bookings which can be tailored to your timescale.

Time of Year

Due to the hotter temperatures and longer season in Turkey, lower-priced yacht charters are available in the off-season of April and November with prices starting to rise in May and peaking in June, September and early to mid October.

Crew

Don't have any sailing experience? No problem! We offer several skippered and crewed options so you can enjoy the yachting lifestyle without the stress. From a simple skippered yacht to fully crewed options, we can arrange a charter to suit your needs.

Flotilla vs Bareboat

Flotilla yacht charters are more expensive than a bareboat charter, but for the extra cost, you are getting the assistance of a lead boat with an experienced crew who are ready to help if you need assistance on your voyage. The flotilla lead crew also arrange social activities and lead you on a carefully curated itinerary. Flotillas are great if you enjoy the social aspects of sailing and are perfect for families, especially during school holidays. Children enjoy making new friends, while adults can unwind and connect with like-minded sailors.

If you are experienced and prefer to discover the islands at your own pace then a bareboat charter is the perfect choice for a relaxing holiday in the Med.

The mooring fees in Turkey are very minimal, you will find it is one of the cheaper Mediterranean destinations in terms of mooring costs. On average, a town quay mooring in Turkey (based on a 40ft monohull) would be €20/night. There are fewer "full-service marinas" compared with somewhere like Croatia, but these would usually be between €50-70/night. There is also the ability to free anchor in a lot of places too, which keeps the cost of your mooring fees down considerably.

Turkey has fantastic sailing conditions, with great offshore NW winds throughout the season. Conditions tend to be calmer in the mornings, picking up in the afternoons.

Spring & Autumn

These are the best times to travel to Turkey, with lighter crowds, moderate temperatures and calm seas.  It is the perfect time to explore everything Turkey has to offer.

Summer

The summers are hot and dry with temperatures averaging between 25º - 30ºC. The Meltemi winds peak between mid-May and mid-September, providing a more exciting sailing experience for experienced sailors.

Best times to sail in Turkey

The best sailing conditions are May, June, September and October

A 1 - 2 week yacht charter will give you the most relaxed sailing experience when exploring Turkey. From swimming in the turquoise waters to mooring at secluded family-run restaurants, we have a range of itineraries to make sure you see the best sailing spots in Turkey.
