Useful Information

The best time to visit Mallorca is between April and October.

The peak tourist season in Mallorca is during the summer months of June, July and August. During peak season you can still find some quiet spots by opting for anchorages rather than the main towns.

The Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza are blessed with some of the sunniest weather in Spain and can experience fantastic weather all year-round. During the shoulder seasons of April/May and September/October you will find the island quieter, still pleasantly warm daytime temperatures and yacht availability is good. Stronger winds and occasional rain or storms may blow in during this time of year. At the end of season and into winter the island can experience the Tramontana wind blowing intensely from the NW.

The Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza are one of the most sun-filled destinations in Spain, boasting over 300 days of sunshine per year. The hottest months are between June and August with air temperatures averaging around 30ºC and water temperatures up to around 25ºC. Usual wind conditions see 8-15kn of gentle wind from the N & NW. As summer progresses, there are the effects of thermal winds.

Mallorca has many wonderful places to visit via land and sea. On a sailing holiday in Mallorca you can enjoy a round-the-island sailing itinerary which will take in some of the best spots in Mallorca. A few great places to visit on your Mallorca yacht charter are Cabrera National Park, Porto Collom fishing village (the home of Christopher Columbus) and Cap de Formentor, the northernmost point of Mallorca which boasts stunning views.

Mallorca has ideal conditions for a sailing holiday with steady afternoon breezes from the north Force 3-5. Stronger mistral winds can blow from the north-west for a few days. The passages between the Balearic islands are more exposed. Summer temperatures average 26-30ºC.

There are a range of different moorings in Mallorca from full-service marinas to town harbours and anchorages. Marinas start at around £40 per night and vary depending on the size of your yacht. Some marinas are on a first come first served basis but many can be pre-booked which is recommended in peak season. Depending on the wind and your chosen sailing route there are approx 150 anchorages on the island offering many different alternatives for an overnight stop.

For bareboat charters in Mallorca you will need RYA Day Skipper or ICC qualification as well as VHF licence in order to skipper the yacht yourself.

Mallorca is a top Mediterranean holiday destination drawing visitors year-round. During the summer months it is the beaches and the stunning turquoise waters that are the top attractions. Just a few spots to consider when on your sailing holiday in Mallorca are Cap de Formentor, Platja d'es Trenc, Palma for great food and lively nightlife, Caves of Drach (Cuevas del Drach) and Sa Dragonera National park.

A 1 week itinerary is ideal to explore the island of Mallorca with a round-the-island itinerary which incorporates some of the top spots in Mallorca. A two-week charter can explore Mallorca at a leisurely pace or with a little planning you could also visit the neighbouring islands of Menorca or Ibiza.

The cost of your yacht charter depends on several factors:

Boat Type

The type and size of the yacht you book will dictate the price. A 1 week charter on a 2 - 3 cabin monohull starts around £1000 in low season whereas 1 week on a luxury catamaran with a skipper in high season could be upwards of £10,000. These are the 2 extremes of the scale for a 1 week charter and we offer plenty of choices in between.

Charter duration

1 week is a popular choice amongst our sailors and makes the perfect getaway however, a longer charter will give you more time to explore all the Balearic islands have to offer.

Time of Year

Lower-priced yacht charters are available in the off-season of April, May, September and October with prices starting to rise in June before peaking in July and August.

The Island of eternal spring! It is possible to sail throughout the whole year in Tenerife as it has a pleasant subtropical Mediterranean climate. Rainfall is low and average temperatures range between 18 and 27 °C. Usually, the water temperatures are only slightly cooler.

Tenerife is a great sailing destination because of the mild climate and the constant winds. Due to the winter sunshine that Tenerife is blessed with, peak season for tourists often includes December and February.

The island has a drier climate in the south and a cooler climate in the north, a fact that is reflected in the landscape. On the southern and western coasts there is more sunshine, less wind and rainfall and the lowest temperature deviations. Average summer temperatures are around 25ºC-34ºC in the south and average winter temperatures are around 17ºC.

There are large distances between the ports and few sheltered bays due to the islands position in the Atlantic. It is excellent and interesting sailing with strong winds and tides but passage planning and consideration to routes is required.

The island is in a tidal area; the tidal range is between 2-3m. Tidal streams can be up to 3kn.

Tenerife is regarded as a strong wind area and can be demanding even for experienced sailors. Throughout the year there are northeast trade winds that blow strongly and provide good sailing winds. There are often accelerated winds between the Canary Islands adding 10-15kn to the wind strength. Adventurous crews will enjoy the challenge but relaxed sailing is rarely possible.

Marinas in Tenerife start at around €30/night depending on the size of yacht and the time of year. It is worth booking marinas in advance in peak season.

For bareboat yacht charters in Tenerife you will need RYA Coastal Skipper qualification.

There is plenty to see and do on a sailing holiday in Tenerife. See the biggest mountain in Spain - Mount Teide, visit Punta de Teno and Los Gigantes, enjoy the traditional fishing village of Las Galletas and dine on fresh fish or mussels, keep watch for Atlantic wales and dolphins, explore the green island of La Gomera or take in the Carnival of Santa Cruz.

There are seven major islands within the canaries and each one is potentially reachable in a full days sail. As the largest island, you could take a week to explore Tenerife and the nearer islands of La Gomera and El Hierro or take two weeks and take in Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.
